Evangelism Ministry
The Evangelism ministry assists with the congregation’s mission to bring the Word of God to our neighbors. They do this by organizing events and programs that connect us to the community around us! Purpose: Spreading the Word of God through our actions with others. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. Responsibilities: 1. Planning and conducting special events as an outreach to our communities. a. Music and Arts Program b. Live Nativity c. Painting with Praise 2. Mentoring interested visitors to our congregation. a. Check with visitor about sitting with and helping them navigate the Worship experience. b. Create and hand out adult visitor care packages. 3. Maintaining contact with existing Church members/visitors. a. Chats at events like Church fellowship following Worship. b. Welfare calls. c. Contact card ministry (Birthday, Get Well, Thinking of You, and Sympathy Cards.) d. Circle of Friendship Sheets. Work with other Ministries as needed for interactive events. The Faith Formation ministry coordinates Christian Education in our congregation. They provide programming for all ages to teach Bible stories, Lutheran Confessions and how to live faith in our daily lives. Programs they coordinate include Sunday School for all ages, Vacation Bible School, Bibles Study, and other education programs throughout the year. They also connect the congregation to educational programs provided by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod. Purpose: To oversee the Christian Education Program of the Congregation, this includes encouraging members to develop strong Biblical foundations and knowledge of the Lutheran Confession. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. The ministry consists of the Faith Formation Director and/or Chairperson and the teaching staff. Responsibilities: 1. Teach/assist Sunday School. 2. Teach/assist Vacation Bible School. 3. Support and assist Pastor in development of Catechetical/First Communion classes when needed. 4. Support and assist in forming Youth Group Programs. 5. Attend seminars/workshops on teaching. 6. Attend regularly scheduled meeting. 7. Organize and oversee special programs. a. Lent/Easter Programs, this would include the Children's Easter Celebration. b. Advent/Christmas Programs. c. Rally Day. d. Service Projects in coordination with Social Ministry. e. Youth Sunday Worship in coordination with Worship and Music Ministry. The Faith Formation Director or Chairperson should oversee all the above named responsibilities as well as the following: 1. Update teaching and program materials as needed. 2. Encourage teachers to attend Seminars/Workshops with you. 3. Recruit and train teachers/staff for all programs overseen by Faith Formation Ministry. 4. Schedule and conduct regular meetings with the members of the Faith Formation Ministry. The Fellowship Ministry coordinates and provides events that bring our community together around food and fellowship. This includes refreshments following worship, funeral luncheons, and special events throughout the year including Easter breakfast, a Women’s tea, Souper Bowl Sunday lunch and much more! We believe that gathering around food for fellowship brings us closer as God’s people! Purpose: To oversee the social interactions of the Church family that keeps people connected to each other. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. Responsibilities: 1. Planning and conducting all social events for the church. a. Scheduled Church dinners like Potato Night, etc. b. Pot Luck Luncheons. c. Cake receptions for special events. d. Soup dinners. e. Any special event that includes food. 2. Set up and clean up for Fellowship time following Worship. 3. Arrange funeral luncheons, both prepared by Fellowship and also catered, that are requested. This would include set up and break down as well as serving the event. 4. Contacts for hall rentals for social gatherings outside of Church functions. a. This includes signing of hall rental agreement, explaining rules for rental and collection of hall rental fee for use. A church representative should be at the church for the function unless a church member is the person renting the space. A contact person should verify that the hall is left in the proper condition and lock the building after the event has concluded. Work with other ministries as needed for interactive events. The Property ministry looks after the needs of the building and grounds proactively tending to repairs and maintenance. They ensure that everything is working properly so that our building can be a place for worship and fellowship, and a place we can share with community groups. Purpose: To tend to the Church Property and all needs of the building/grounds to provide the best setting for Worship and service to the Community. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. Responsibilities: 1. Keep up with all repairs and maintenance and any other needs of the building/grounds of the church property. a. This would include: electrical, plumbing, water/sewer, phone, cleaning needs, heating/cooling, roofing/exterior work, interior work, and all ground maintenance such as lawn mowing and snow removal. 2. Create a list of contractors for contact with any building/grounds issues that the ministry can not complete on their own. Work with other Ministries for any special events that would involve any needs related to the building or grounds. The Social Ministry team leads the congregation in putting faith into action by engaging them in serving those in need. Purpose: A needs based ministry expressing God's love for all people by serving those in need. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. Responsibilities: 1. Assist underserved people to meet their daily needs. a. Food collections that also include other needed household items. b. Head Start Thanksgiving baskets. c. Giving Tree for Christmas d. Request Temple Talks by organizations we support in any way to better understand the needs of the people they serve. e. Address Social Justice issues as identified by Congregation Council. 2. Support special programs such as natural disaster relief programs and always be on the look out for adding new needs to our lists to assure we continue to serve others needs in the best ways possible. The Worship and Music ministry works with the pastor to plan the worship life of the congregation by choosing music and planning liturgy to ensure that the heart of our life together is centered in Word and Sacrament! Purpose: Plan and conduct Worship services. Reports to: Congregation Council and Pastor. Support: Pastor and Congregation Council. Responsibilities: 1. Plan Worship services, including selecting the hymns, in conjunction with the Pastor. 2. Oversee the sub-ministries that report to Worship and Music Ministry. a. Worship Assistants/Readers b. Altar Guild - Responsibilities: 1. Change Altar Paraments. 2. Set up and clean up for Communion when scheduled. 3. Make sure Communion bread is provided. 4. Inform Administrator when supplies need to be ordered for Communion: wine, grape juice, liquid paraffin for candlesticks, baptismal candles, and any other needed supplies for Worship/Altar needs. 5. Flower/Bulletin Chart sponsored by the Congregation. 6. Fill candlesticks with liquid paraffin (only burns for 2 hours). c. Usher/Greeter Teams d. Prepare and instruct duties and guidelines for the sub-ministries listed. 3. Oversee all preparations for Worship in both the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. a. Verify that Sanctuary is prepared for Worship for all services. b. Verify that Fellowship Hall is prepared for Summer Worship. c. Change banners in Sanctuary for festivals and special occasions. d. Order and set up flowers for Easter, Christmas, and Pentecost. e. Oversee decoration and clean up of Sanctuary for Christmas Eve. f. Post Hymn numbers on board in Sanctuary for services. g. Acolytes h. Keep Worship bags for children up to date. I. Straighten up pews and offering envelopes prior to Worship. 4. Prepare weekly Worship Record sheets for Worship. a. Use new Circle of Friendship sheets when implemented. b. The sheets are multi-purpose, this includes Communion Records, census of weekly Worshippers and as a tool for Evangelism to follow up with visitors and members. c. Ann should receive the sheets for each Communion Sunday, then return them to church for Evangelism and Worship and Music to record the data they need. 5. Nursey (staffed when in use).
